The Homecoming race, is a family-wide event that we are using as a time-trial.
What’s a time-trial? An opportunity to run a measured 5K to see how fast you each can run it. It helps the coaches gauge your fitness levels for training purposes, and is a great opportunity for those of you who have not run a 5K before. It also should be a great encouragement for those who have been doing summer running. It’s the same course as last year, so you can compare how you’re doing this year with last year’s time. It also provides an early-season baseline for you to see how you’ll improve over the season. And each of you WILL improve a lot if you keep at the training!
It is about a 40-45 minute drive for most of you, so plan accordingly.
Please try and arrive by 7:15 AM.
We will start marking names on the runner’s arms as soon as you arrive to help our timers record your times.
Please wear your singlet and black shorts if you have them. We’d like to take a team picture.
Warmups begin at 7:30 AM.
The race begins at 8:00 AM.
Bring water/electrolyte drink for yourself and snacks for ride home.
There will be a 1-mile Fun Run for siblings that will begin shortly after the 5K runners start their run.
Course Information
*DUE TO THURSDAY’S STORM, THE ROUTE WILL HAVE SOME CHANGES* What is the course like? Almost completely asphalt road, very little traffic. One 1/10-mile stretch crosses a grassy dam and goes up a short steep hill (Coach Wendy would call it a cute little hill). There is also a larger hill about 1.5 miles into the race that has the affectionate nickname of “Mount Doom.” The race will start near our house, and finish in front of our mailbox – course will be well-marked, with mile markers as well as cones where you’re not simply following the road. The
A 1-mile Fun Run will follow a smaller route.
Parking Info
Early-arrivers can park up the driveway behind our house on the grass, perpendicular to the driveway.
Most will be parking off the road in front of our house and in front of our neighbors’ house.
Please park perpendicular to the road and pull completely off the road onto the grass, so that you will not be blocking traffic or the runners in the race.
